International relocation from the UAE means packing and shipping household or office goods abroad by sea or air. Sea freight — LCL for part-loads, FCL for a full home — suits most moves on cost; air freight is used for essentials and urgent items. Export documentation, destination customs clearance and delivery are handled as one job.

What to know before you book

Volume, not weight, decides the price of a move. A three-bedroom apartment is usually somewhere around 30 to 45 cubic metres once furniture is wrapped, which normally puts it in 20ft or 40ft container territory. A one-bedroom flat is often 10 to 15 cubic metres and travels as LCL. The quickest way to reduce a moving cost is to reduce volume before packing day, not after.

Personal effects clearance has its own rules everywhere. Most countries allow used household goods relief for someone genuinely taking up residence, but the conditions differ: how long you owned the items, how soon after arrival the shipment lands, proof of residence, and a valued inventory. New items still in packaging, alcohol, and anything commercial-looking are treated separately. We tell you what your destination expects before packing, because the inventory has to support the claim.

Plan an air-freight essentials box. Sea freight typically takes weeks door to door. A small air shipment carrying clothes, documents, laptops, kitchen basics and children's items means you are not living out of suitcases while the container sails.

What affects the price

  • Volume after packing — the main driver, measured in cubic metres or cubic feet.
  • Mode — LCL, FCL or air freight.
  • Packing service level — full pack, part pack or owner-packed cartons.
  • Access at both ends — floor, lift availability, parking and carry distance.
  • Destination duty or VAT — depends on your residence status and the country's relief rules.
  • Storage — if the shipment lands before your new home is ready.
  • Insurance — all-risks cover based on your declared replacement values.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to move a household out of the UAE?

It depends almost entirely on volume and destination. A one-bedroom flat as LCL sea freight costs a fraction of a four-bedroom villa in a 40ft container. A survey gives a firm figure; a rough volume estimate is enough for an indicative quote.

How long will my shipment take?

Sea freight is typically several weeks door to door depending on destination, sailing schedule and clearance. Air freight is usually a matter of days. We give a realistic window per option rather than a best case.

Will I pay duty on my household goods?

Many countries grant relief on used personal effects for people taking up residence, subject to conditions such as prior ownership period and proof of residence. New items, alcohol and commercial goods are usually treated differently. We confirm the rules for your destination before packing.

Do you pack, or do I pack?

Either. A full professional pack gives the best protection and the cleanest insurance position. Owner-packed cartons are cheaper but are usually excluded from damage cover for their contents.

Can I send some things by air and the rest by sea?

Yes, and it is a good idea. A small air consignment of essentials arriving with you, with the bulk following by sea, is the most common arrangement we book.

Can you store my goods if my new home is not ready?

Yes, at either end — in the UAE before shipping or at destination after arrival, though destination storage may affect customs relief timing in some countries.

Is insurance included?

It is quoted separately, based on a valued inventory you provide. Carrier liability alone is limited by weight and will not cover the replacement value of household goods.
